Vintage HANDMADE Primitive HUNTING - FISHING SPEARS & BOW
I personally never did much research on these items that I've had for years, (I never much cared, I just liked them) but in making this listing I thought it best to find out as much as I could and pass what I've found out along to you. While I'm pretty confident about this information - I can't say it's 100% accurate. If anyone knows (for absolute sure that any information is inaccurate - feel free to message me.
I spoke with a gentleman who was a lot more knowledgeable about these pieces that I ever could be. He informed me that the spears are made from Calcutta Bamboo and while "Calcutta" signifies "India" he assured me that this particular bamboo is found not only in India but throughout Indonesia as well. His best guess is that the items pictured most likely are from Thailand. He also said that it's one of the strongest bamboo's around and you could probably drive a truck over it without damage. (But I HIGHLY recommend you don't try this - they're old!)
He also believed that these items were actually used for hunting/fishing instead of something made for tourists. Again - are we 100% sure? Of course not. but - I agree with him. He also suggested I contact the Smithsonian for more info but - I'll go with this. Again - if you have any questions - I'll do my best to answer them.
    See photos.
Photo 1 - All pieces together. (Horrible photo - I know - but, it was raining so I had to take it indoors. Each piece is numbered and the photos after are numbered as well so you can have a much better idea of what they look like closer up.
Photo Numbered 1 - Probably made more as a decorative piece or possibly indicative of the family or tribe, rather than being actually used for hunting or fishing. It measures 67" long and 2" at it's widest. (Wooden)
Photo Numbered 2 - Hunting and/or fishing spear made from Calcutta bamboo. It measures 65" long and 1" in diameter at it's widest.
Photo Numbered 3 - Fishing spear made from Calcutta bamboo. It measures 57" long and 3/4" in diameter (pole.)
Photo Numbered 4 - Bow made from some kind of hardwood with a bamboo string. It measures 54" long and 1 1/4" in wide at it's widest.
Photo Numbered 5 - Fishing spear made from Calcutta bamboo. It measures 57" long and 3/4" in diameter (pole.)
Photo Numbered 6 - Hunting and/or fishing spear made from Calcutta bamboo. It measures 64 3/4" long and 1" in diameter at it's widest.
I've enjoyed this collection for years but they no longer work with the decor of the room. Time for a new home where they can be appreciated as much as I have.
    Update!~ Lowered price to 425.00
Items sold in "AS IS" condition.
    Thanks!
