    Description

This Ohio Carriage split hickory buggy was purchased in Ohio and brought to California in the late 40s early 50s where it resided in Pasadena until now.  Being sold from the estate of the owner.  The previous Ohio owner stated that this vehicle was one of 10 units converted to gasoline as automotive prototypes.  The same Ohio owner had removed the original engine for use in a small saw mill.  The Pasadena owner found and installed a 1946 Briggs and Stratton single cylinder, hand crank start engine.  This engine is in need of attention for low compression and hard starting.     This carriage maintains its original 5th wheel steering controlled through a tiller handle.   Original brakes are controlled through a latching handle on the right side.   The throttle is fixed, hand cable operated and the forward propulsion is controlled by a tensioned belt drive.  The engine sits on a pivot and the left hand, thought lever, controls the belt tension.   The carriage still has it's original brass ID plate on the back,  Ohio plates are decorative and there is no title or vin number included.   Feel free to send your questions.
